I may be preoccupied with...
…Fashion Week, but marathon thoughts keep dancing in my head. Ten days to go until I am 26.2 miles deep in Easthampton. I have never looked forward to a race so much. The last long run took place yesterday, squeezed between Pamella Roland and Tibi; now all I have to do is plan my outfit! And transportation. And where I will sleep. But those are just details.
I always fall into a little depression spell after a marathon. It’s a such an enormous achievement, over in minutes, without possibility of running another for at least a couple months. I tend to feel at loose ends without a race day looming on my calendar, without an excuse to run long and fast. But this year I will stave off the finisher’s blues by training for a new race, a short race, a very interesting race that came to my attention via the lovely Elizabeth Anne:
Runyon 5K to benefit the Runyon Cancer Research Foundation
This is without a doubt one of the coolest running events I have heard of. It takes place in Yankee Stadium on Sunday, November 15, and if you are in the New York area and love a challenge, please sign up for this. So awesome. From the invitation’s description of the course:Participants will run or walk the Stadium’s concourses and ramps, climb stairs between levels, and finish with a lap around the warning track that circles the famous field – then enjoy the view from a player’s perspective!
Intriguing, right? The entry fee is $50 (pricey for a 5-K but also tax-deductible), and you can sign up here. All proceeds support “brilliant young cancer researchers” funded by the Foundation.Run hard, and save lives! That’s the most fashionable thing I’ve written all week.
